Why Rivers palliative disbursement can’t be probed – ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission on Wednesday said it could not investigate how Rivers State disbursed its COVID-19 palliatives and funds until the subsisting court injunction barring anti-graft agencies from probing the state government finances was vacated.

The ICPC commissioner in Rivers State, Chukwurah Alexander, stated this in Port Harcourt on Wednesday during the 2020 International Anti Corruption Day.

Alexander said, “For you to investigate an agency or an individual, you need authority.

“So we are barred legally speaking from doing so in Rivers, it would be near impossible for us to carry out such an investigation.”

Recall that Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt in 2007, gave an order of perpetual injunction, preventing the  EFCC or any other anti-graft agency from investigating the state finances or its officials.
