We will not shut the doors to criminals who want to embrace peace – IGP

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has said that criminals who are willing to renounce violence and embrace peace will not be turned away.

The police chief disclosed this during a media engagement recently. Egbetokun explained that accepting peace overtures does not translate to easing pressure on criminal networks.

“Criminals who want to embrace peace, we will not shut the doors to them. If they want to surrender, they are welcome. But that does not mean we are going to relax our onslaught on them,” he said.

Egbetokun also addressed rising cases of attacks on police officers, warning that such incidents are unacceptable. He urged Nigerians to avoid confronting officers on duty, even when disagreements arise, and instead report misconduct through the proper channels.

“I have repeatedly warned against attacking police officers on lawful duties. If you do not agree with the conduct of any police officer, do not attack that policeman. Report his conduct to his superiors” he

said
