We will deal with you – Reps give 72 hours to CBN Governor, IGP, others

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has been given 72 hours to appear before the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating recovered loots.

The ultimatum is also affecting the Inspector General of Police, Usman Akali Baba, National Security Adviser, Babangana Monguno and the Director-General of NIMASA, Bashir Jamoh.

The decision to summon them followed a motion moved at the hearing on Monday. The CBN Governor and others had failed to appear before the investigative committee, instead sent representatives.

Ibrahim Isiaka, a member of the committee, moved the motion during the hearing.

The Chairman of the Committee, Adejoro Adeogun, who was visibly dismayed with the agencies, said the actions of the agencies are like insult to House of Representatives.

Adeogun said the 4 summoned individuals should appear before the committee or the lawmakers will “invoke its power to deal with them according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This committee has passesda motion now that the governor of CBN, the IGP, National Security Adviser, and the Director-General of NIMASA have between now and Thursday to appear before this committee, otherwise the parliament– the House of Representatives will invoke its power to deal with them according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the chairman ruled.

The 1999 constitution gives the National Assembly powers to summon anyone during public hearing and to issue warrant of arrest if summoned individuals fail to appear.
