We get regular updates on Kanu through his family -Abia Govt

The Abia State Government says it gets regular updates on the leader of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, through his family members and other relevant persons.

The government also promises to ensure that his fundamental human rights are respected.

Kanu is standing trial for treason, specifically for campaigning for separatist republic of Biafra; and he is being held by the operatives of the Department of State Service in Abuja.

The Abia State Government made its decision known in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, John Kalu, on Friday.

Kanu hails from Abia State.

The statement reads, in part: “The Abia State Government is confident that the judiciary will ensure a free and manifestly fair trial for him and others as they remain innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“We remain in touch with his family members, other relevant persons and institutions, and receive regular updates through them on the situation.”
