War threat: Buhari not genocidal, won’t allow anarchy in Nigeria – Presidency

The Presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari would not allow some Nigerians to use insurrection or violence to destroy the country.

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made the remark while dismissing the genocidal tag against the President following his controversial war threat.

Adesina stressed that Buhari was not genocidal and would not kill a particular ethnic group in the country.

He pointed out that the President would not allow anarchy to take over Nigeria.

He stated this in an article on Friday titled, ‘I Suddenly Remembered Why I Fell In Love With The President’.

The article reads partly: “The man we fell in love with is of iron and steel, one ready and willing to knock sense into contumacious heads, whipping everyone into line. And being kind to us in the process. A kind bully, if you like the oxymoron.

“What our country needs at this time is iron and steel. An alchemy of GMB (General Muhammadu Buhari) and PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari).

“We are in a democracy, yes, but democracy is no byword for lawlessness. If anybody misbehaves in any part, repeat, any part, of the country, they need to be whipped into line.

“North, South, East, West, anarchy should never be condoned, no matter what some people may say.”

“President Buhari is not genocidal, and can’t ever be accused of such intentions. But a leader worth his salt cannot look on, and watch law and order break down irretrievably. It is not about a people, or region. It is about the country he took an oath to keep together.”

The President had spoken while condemning the attacks on police stations, correctional facilities and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Buhari’s remark, which was posted on Twitter, had caused controversy across the country.

Nigerians had called for the suspension of Buhari’s account for saying ‘individuals or groups who want to destroy his government will receive the shock of their lives.’

He had said they would be treated in a language they would understand.

Following the backlash Twitter had on Wednesday deleted the tweet for violating its rules.
