US Mission Reaffirms Visa Fees Are Non-Refundable

The United States Mission in Nigeria has reiterated that visa application fees remain non-refundable, stressing that the policy is consistent with global standards.

The Mission made this clarification on Tuesday via a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, following fresh questions and concerns raised by Nigerian visa applicants.

According to the statement, the visa fees are designed to cover the cost of processing applications, regardless of whether a visa is granted or denied.

“We hear your concerns regarding US visa application fees,” the Embassy wrote. “Like most countries, US visa fees cover the cost of processing the application, regardless of the outcome. While fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, each application is reviewed thoroughly and fairly.”

The Mission encouraged applicants to carefully prepare their documents and applications to improve their chances of success. It also reassured Nigerians that every application receives a fair and detailed review before a decision is made.
