The remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, will be laid to rest at his Daura residence in Katsina State on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday, Governor Umaru Dikko Radda confirmed the burial arrangements following consultations with the late president’s family and associates in London, where he passed away on Sunday.
“The burial arrangement for our father, the late President who passed on yesterday in a hospital in London, has been finalized,” Governor Radda stated. “We have made consultations with the family and people around him in London and we concluded that the body will arrive in Katsina tomorrow by 12 noon. Burial is scheduled to take place in Daura at about 2 p.m.”
Governor Radda extended his condolences on behalf of the Katsina State government, saying:
“On behalf of myself, the people, and the government of Katsina State, we condole the family and the people of Nigeria—especially His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces—over the demise of his predecessor.
May Almighty Allah give us the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Meanwhile, a steady stream of sympathisers continued to visit the late president’s residence in Daura on Monday. Among the early mourners were former Senate President Ahmad Lawan and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, Aliyu Abubakar.
As the nation mourns, preparations are in top gear for a solemn farewell to one of Nigeria’s most prominent leaders.
