Awgu Local Government Area held its monthly PDP meeting at Awgu local government headquarters multipurpose hall on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer led by Mr. Steven Nweke. Rt. Hon. Alex Ogbonnia followed with traditional rites and words of wisdom as he broke the kola nut.
In his opening address, the Awgu PDP Chairman, Hon. Kenechukwu Okolo, acknowledged the presence of executives and members. He expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his developmental strides, including the establishment of smart schools, improved healthcare facilities, and the construction of rural roads. Hon. Okolo also extended appreciation to the Awgu Local Government Chairman and emphasized that the PDP remains open to accommodating more members to continue advancing its achievements.
Rt. Hon. Alex Ogbonnia, in his speech, praised the leadership of Uche Okolo, stating that the people of Awgu are pleased with his performance. He advocated for unity and collective progress among the people. He also supported the meeting financially with a donation of ₦30,000.
Comrade Tony Ude, in his remarks, encouraged PDP members to be ambassadors of Governor Mbah’s projects in their respective communities. He stressed that only visible accomplishments can secure the party’s success in the 2027 elections. He also supported the meeting with a donation of ₦50,000.
The PDP Youth Leader of Enugu State, Ozo Ejike Ilo, who represented the State Party Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwuweikwe Ozo Igbo Ndu, attended the meeting bearing messages from the state and also served as a monitor. He commended the people of Awgu for their impressive turnout and conveyed Governor Mbah’s message that the PDP umbrella is wide enough to include more members, assuring that no one’s position would be taken.
He further conveyed the following directives from the state:
1. Enugu State PDP’s new slogan:
“PDP – Power to the People, Power to the People – Tomorrow is Here, Tomorrow is Here – Peter Mbah, Peter Mbah – 2027, 2027 – Lion Building, Lion Building – No Vacancy, No Vacancy – At All At All.”
He emphasized that Governor Mbah is performing exceptionally and should not face competition—declaring it should be a “walkover.”
2. All PDP meetings should be held either at the ward, local government, or zonal level.
3. Ward Chairmen are instructed to review their executive lists, correct any errors or duplicate names, and submit an updated list to the state office. The document must be signed by the Chairman, Youth Leader, Woman Leader, and Secretary.
4. A copy of the minutes from each meeting must be sent to the state to help assess active members and party supporters.
Hon. Raph Onovo, in his remarks, praised Governor Mbah for appointing an outstanding local government chairman in Awgu, highlighting his demonstration of good leadership. He also commended the governor for fostering peace and unity within the party, which has led to the return of former members. Additionally, he acknowledged Governor Mbah for appointing two prominent Awgu sons—Dr. Martin Chukwuweikwe Ozo Igbo Ndu as the State Party Chairman, and Rt. Hon. Ozo Udo Okoye as the National Secretary of PDP. He described Governor Mbah as a “workaholic” and stated that the party owes him unwavering support.
