On sunday morning, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Office located in Awgu local Government Area of Enugu State was gutted by fire.
The chief security officer (CSO) of Awgu Ward 1, Mike Ojukwu, confirmed the incident to be true to UGAMATV reporters on Sunday.

Speaking with him, he said, “I was on duty with some neighborhood security around 8am. on Sunday when we saw the flame coming out from the INEC office and immediately rushed to the scene.
“We broke the gate of the INEC office because it was locked, only to see that fire had started from the store room in the INEC building.
“We immediately made a distress call to Awgu and Enugu fire service who came and helped us to quench the fire,” Mr Mike said.

Ojukwu said it was the timely intervention of the fire men that prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
“It is only the store in the INEC building that was completely burnt down by fire,” he said.

The nearby dwellers thanked the fire service for their intervention that prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building, and requested for security support from the government in order to ensure adequate safety for Awgu indigenes.
