UNILORIN murder: CCTV captured suspect withdrawing money from victim’s account -Official

A member of staff of the Guarantee Trust Bank, Babatunji Lawal, on Tuesday, revealed the identity of the suspect who withdrew money from the account of late Olajide Blessing, a 300-level student of the University of Ilorin who was allegedlly raped and murdered at her home in Tanke area of Ilorin on June 2, 2021.

Testifying before Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, Lawal told the court that bank CCTV footage captured the image of the sixth defendant, Abdullateef Abdulrahman.

Led in evidence by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Salman Jawondo, the GTB staff said the deceased’s money was siphoned through Kuda Microfinance bank with the use of Opay application, saying total amount withdrawn from her account was N50,000 with bank charges.

Lawal, who was the 9th witness in the case was cross-examined by the legal representatives of the 1st, 6th and 8th defendants.

Mr Femi Babalola, an Officer of the Department of State Security Service who was ushered into the prosecution box will begin his testimony today (Wednesday) at the Court.

The trial judge, Justice Yusuf adjourned the case till today for continuation of trial.

It would be recalled that the deceased who would have turned 24 years this month, was found dead in her home on 2nd June, with her mouth gagged with clothes, hands tied to the back with bruises on her private part and a piece of paper on her chest containing a message: ‘Unilorin doesn’t forgive’.

Eight accused persons were standing trial of alleged conspiracy, rape, murder and armed robbery of Blessing at Tanke area, Ilorin on June 2,2021 before the Court.

The defendants included; Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Moses Oluwatimileyin (aka Jacklord), Oyeyemi Timileyin Omogbolahan, Abdulkarim Shuaib (aka Easy), Kareem Oshioyemi Rasheed (Rashworld), Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Bashir Adebayo (aka Bashman) and Akande Taiye Oladoja.

The first three defendants were standing trial for alleged rape and murder of the 24-year-old student, while the other five were standing trial of alleged robbery and receipt of stolen items.
