UK Visit: “We Don’t Need New MoUs” Former Ambassador Urges Practicalization of Past Deals

Former Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, Ijeoma Obiezu, has said that Nigeria does not need new Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, and agreements.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Thursday, Obiezu said that what Nigeria needs is to build on what has been done.

Her remark is coming after the Nigerian government and the United Kingdom signed three Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The signing followed President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by his wife, Remi.

Airing her own opinion, the ex-diplomat said, “We don’t need new MoUs and agreements. We need to harness what has been done and look for a way to really practicalize them for the benefits of both countries involved.”

Speaking on the agreement on immigration signed by both countries, the former ambassador said, “If you don’t have the necessary requirements to be in anybody’s country, you don’t have any business being there.

“Be that as it may, we also need to put some measures in place to make our own home quite conducive and comfortable. The essence of life is livelihood. If you can’t find your livelihood, here you, look for ways and means of meeting your livelihood.

“I think Nigerians should apply restraint in moving up and down. They should go where they have the papers and where they are allowed to come in to curb the embarrassment that we face out there.”
