Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru, has announced that notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji is currently on the run following intensified military offensives by the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Speaking during a ministerial briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Badaru disclosed that recent operations have resulted in the elimination of at least 11 high-profile terrorist commanders across various regions.
Among those killed are Maza Barume Madaro, Kachalla Alhaji Dati, Bani Wala Burki, Kachalla Dogo Kwaden, Chairman Hanazuma, Kachalla Bandiyo, Maiyara Madaci, Alhaji Karki, Kachalla Makore, Zakiru, and Okachalla Azarailu.
“The military has been dealing decisive blows to these criminals,” the Minister said, adding, “With each passing day, more of their leaders are neutralized, and the rest are on the run.”
He praised the renewed momentum of military operations nationwide, especially in the Northeast, where troops have responded effectively to recent insurgent activity.
Badaru assured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling the country’s complex security challenges. He noted that the Ministry is enhancing intelligence efforts to proactively prevent attacks and restore peace.
He also acknowledged the deeply rooted causes of Nigeria’s insecurity, citing decades of socio-political instability, economic disruption, porous borders, and evolving global terrorism trends that challenge conventional military responses.
