Troops of the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed a suspected terrorist and rescued 19 abducted victims during a security operation at Gidan Dogo in the Bwari Area Council.
The operation was carried out by soldiers from the 7 Guards Battalion in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups. During the mission, security operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle and a locally made firearm while combing the area for terrorists and other criminal elements.
According to the military, the raid followed credible intelligence on the location of suspects believed to be behind the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area.
Troops reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle during the operation, killing one of them while others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.
Further search of the area led to the recovery of the weapons, while all 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and taken to safety.
After the mission, the troops returned to their forward operating base in Bwari, while the rescued victims received medical attention.
The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, praised the soldiers and other security personnel for their courage and professionalism during the operation.
He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and maintaining security in Abuja, stressing that operations would continue in partnership with other security agencies to combat terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the territory and surrounding areas.
