The Nigerian Army on Tuesday announced that its troops have killed 11 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in separate clashes in Borno and Adamawa states.
According to the army’s statement, the first encounter occurred on September 15 along the Baga–Cross Kauwa road in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. Soldiers on patrol were ambushed by insurgents who detonated an improvised explosive device and opened fire.
The troops, however, responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee. Follow-up reports confirmed that eight insurgents were neutralised in the operation, including three of their field leaders.
“They were identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, an unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota, while several others sustained gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
In a separate encounter at Umbo village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, soldiers killed three more ISWAP fighters, bringing the total number of insurgents neutralised to 11.
The army also disclosed that troops recovered 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, several rounds of ammunition, anti-aircraft equipment, blankets, and various types of drugs during the operations.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on insurgents and restoring peace to the affected regions.
