Media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has revealed why she no longer buys gifts for men she is romantically involved with.

Speaking on a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast featuring reality star Beauty Tukura, Makinwa recounted a painful experience from her university days that changed her perspective.

According to her, she once dated a man who was 10 years older and used her semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday, including taking him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.

She said the relationship ended in heartbreak after she discovered another woman waiting at his house when they returned from the celebration.

“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday. He ordered everything on the menu, and when we got home, there was another woman in his house. That broke me,” she said.

Makinwa said the experience left her deeply hurt and influenced her decision never to buy gifts for men she dates again.
