The morale of Nigeria’s security personnel has received a major boost as the Commandant of the Police Detectives College, Enugu, Commissioner of Police (CP) Rosemary Collins, applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating an urgent reform of police and other security training institutions across the country.
CP Collins, during an on-the-spot assessment of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) training facility in Oji River and the Police Detectives College in Enugu, commended the President for demonstrating genuine concern for the welfare and professional development of security agents. She praised the Mbah-led committee—appointed by the President—to drive the national overhaul and modernisation exercise.
“This initiative has rekindled our hope and strengthened our resolve to serve the nation with renewed passion and dedication. We are grateful to the President for remembering the security agencies and prioritising our welfare and training,” she said, assuring Nigerians of the unwavering commitment of security personnel to deliver their best.
Governor Peter Mbah, who chairs the Presidential Committee for the revamp of training institutions for the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, noted that the initiative stems from President Tinubu’s resolve to strengthen the country’s security architecture and enhance the conditions of service for officers.
He explained that the committee, inaugurated during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on October 23, had divided itself into northern and southern teams to fast-track the nationwide assessment. According to him, the southern team under his leadership has already visited several facilities, including the NSCDC centre in Oji River.
Governor Mbah expressed concern over the deplorable state of some training institutions, describing them as unfit for preparing men and women mandated to safeguard lives and property. He said the President had found the conditions unacceptable and ordered immediate, comprehensive intervention to renovate, re-equip, and modernise the facilities to meet global standards.
The ongoing assessment and planned reforms have been widely welcomed, signaling a new era of improved training, enhanced welfare, and strengthened operational capacity for Nigeria’s security agencies.
