Tinubu’s 2nd year: Ohanaeze Calls for Cabinet Overhaul, Citing Tinubu’s Failure to Address Hunger and Economic Woes

The Apex Igbo Socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate exemplary leadership by addressing the pervasive hunger and ineffective economic policies that have proven fruitless over the past two years.

The Pan-lgbo group, also advised Tinubu to summon his righteous resolve to put an end to the “Yorubanization” agenda which compromises the integrity of national unity and embrace a paradigm ground in competence and merit

In a second Anniversary joint press statement issued on Thursday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Thompson Ohia, Spokespersons respectively, Ohanaeze commended the contributions of Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, whose efforts in executing visible and verifiable federal road projects and infrastructure reforms warrant recognition.

Ohanaeze stated that there’s nothing to celebrate on this significant two years of President Bola Tinubu’s led-All Progressive Congress, APC federal government saying it is high time for a total overhaul of his cabinet.

According to the statement, Nigerians are enduring untold hardships as a direct consequence of the ongoing experimental leadership failures propagated by a cadre of incompetent ministers and political appointees.

Ohanaeze said the abysmal performances have marred the credibility of President Tinubu’s government, leaving the ordinary citizen grappling with the harsh ramifications of ineffective governance.

The statement read, “The challenges confronting our nation, from soaring inflation to food insecurity, stand as stark reminders of the disconnect between the leadership and the populace. This is an urgent call to action and a poignant opportunity for President Tinubu to reconnect with the masses.

“He must summon his righteous resolve to put an end to the “Yorubanization” agenda, which compromises the integrity of our national unity, and instead embrace a paradigm grounded in competence and merit. It is high time for a significant reshuffling of the cabinet.

“We urge the President to take decisive action in dismissing not only ineffective ministers but to introduce proven leaders like Umahi and Wike to restore public confidence in governance.

“The uncomfortable truth must be conveyed unequivocally: President Tinubu’s two-year scorecard is heavily tainted by the incompetence and corruption of his appointed officials.

“The Nigerian people expect transformative leadership, and if this expectation continues to be unmet, the political landscape may shift dramatically by 2027. Those responsible for this administration’s failures are likely to position themselves within opposition coalitions, abandoning the President at the crucial moment.

“Moreover, we call on President Tinubu to demonstrate exemplary leadership by addressing the pervasive hunger and ineffective economic policies that have proven fruitless over the past two years.

“Courage must be wielded in advocating for the creation of additional states, particularly two states in the Southeast, to foster equitable representation for the region. Furthermore, it is paramount that the Federal Government ensures that both ethnicity and religion are given due consideration in the forthcoming 2025 National Census.

“This will enable a restructuring of Nigeria that recognizes our diverse identity and propels a new era of electoral reforms to enhance our democratic process. We must convey an uncompromising, blunt truth: President Tinubu risks being abandoned by his Northern allies, including governors, if present trends continue as we approach the 2027 elections.

“In this scenario, it is the Igbo community—scattered across the 774 local government areas—who hold the potential to bolster his reelection bid significantly. Their votes could yield approximately 39% of the Northern electorate if the President takes action to unveil the true demographic strengths of the Northern region in the upcoming census.

By emphasizing the critical importance of ethnicity and religion in this context, we can foster an understanding that paves the way for a more inclusive governance structure. We implore President Tinubu to seize this critical moment as an opportunity for deep introspection and reform.

“By prioritizing competent leadership, addressing the actual needs of the populace, and fostering national unity, we can transcend divisions and work toward a Nigeria that fulfills the hopes and aspirations of all its citizens.
