President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to inaugurate the completed section of Phase One, Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway today, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos, describing the 30-kilometre stretch as a flagship project of the Tinubu administration.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at Kilometer Eight of the highway, which forms part of the 750km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway — a transformational corridor designed to enhance connectivity and economic integration across Nigeria’s southern states.
According to Umahi, President Tinubu views the project as the realization of a vision he conceived over two decades ago.
“This project is not just a road; it is a symbol of national integration, economic vitality, and social cohesion,” the minister said. “For Mr. President, this is a dream nurtured for 27 years, now becoming a legacy of transformation.”
Beyond facilitating transportation and boosting commerce in coastal communities spanning nine states, Umahi noted that the highway also stands as a testament to engineering excellence and aesthetic design.
In addition to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, President Tinubu is also expected to virtually commission several other signature infrastructure projects across Southern Nigeria. These include:
The 94km dualised East-West Road, Section II (Eleme Junction–Ahoada) in Rivers State
The reconstructed 166.8km Sagamu–Ibadan section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The 67.1km Alesi–Ugep Road in Cross River State
The 75m dual Enugu Bridge at New Artisan Market
The 65m New Akpoha Bridge in Ebonyi State
The 48.6km Lagos–Badagry Expressway Expansion (Agbara Junction to Nigeria–Benin Republic Border)
President Tinubu will also perform ground-breaking ceremonies for new critical road projects, including:
The Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Benin Road, which traverses four states
The Nembe–Brass Road
Sections of the 107km Enugu–Onitsha Expressway
The Abakpa Flyover in Enugu State
Senator Umahi said that top government officials, including governors—especially those from coastal states—federal lawmakers, ministers, heads of parastatals, and development partners, are expected to attend the inauguration events.
The Minister of State for Works, Mr. Bello Goronyo, will join in welcoming dignitaries and stakeholders, with Umahi describing the occasion as a celebration of a new chapter in Nigeria’s infrastructure journey.
He assured the public that all necessary arrangements, including tight security measures, have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
