President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday night returned to Abuja following a successful state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.
The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 8:55 p.m. local time, where he was received by senior government officials in line with established protocol.
The state visit, which featured extensive diplomatic, economic and security engagements, culminated in the signing of several bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and Türkiye. A major outcome of the visit was a renewed trade drive targeting a bilateral trade volume of $5 billion.
President Tinubu had departed Abuja on Monday, January 26, at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Discussions during the visit focused on trade and investment, security cooperation, energy, education and defence partnerships.
As part of efforts to expand economic collaboration, both countries agreed to establish a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to accelerate trade growth and encourage increased Turkish investment in Nigeria.
Speaking at a joint press briefing in Ankara, President Erdoğan commended President Tinubu’s commitment to attracting foreign investment, noting that the presence of several Nigerian ministers and top government officials demonstrated Nigeria’s seriousness in strengthening economic ties with Türkiye.
