President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to legendary folklorist and Igbo music icon, Mike Ejeagha, who passed away at the age of 95, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest cultural ambassadors.
In a condolence message signed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday, the President extended heartfelt sympathies to Ejeagha’s family, friends, and countless fans, noting that the revered musician left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
President Tinubu praised Ejeagha for using his distinctive storytelling and musical talent to preserve and promote Igbo language, customs, and values—an effort that inspired generations and cemented his place in history.
“The spirit and values embedded in Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music remind us of the power of art to heal, awaken, and direct energy towards noble causes that contribute to nation-building,” Tinubu said.
He also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for recognizing and honouring Ejeagha’s contributions while he was alive. The President prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed soul and for comfort to all who mourn his loss.
