Tinubu Celebrates IBB at 84

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), on his 84th birthday.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the former military leader as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political history.

He highlighted Babangida’s distinguished military career, which included service as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment and Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and later Chief of Army Staff.

Reflecting on Babangida’s years in power, Tinubu noted that his administration was associated with significant reforms and infrastructure projects such as the Third Mainland Bridge. He also recalled the establishment of key national security and safety agencies, including the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Additionally, Babangida’s tenure oversaw the creation of new states and the historic relocation of the Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja.

President Tinubu prayed for the former leader’s continued good health, strength, and long life.
