Three gunmen killed during shootout with police in Osun

Three gunmen were reportedly killed on Wednesday by the operatives of Osun State Police Command during an exchange of gunfire in Osunjela community, along Osogbo-Ilesha Road.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, but the state police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.

She, however, requested for more time to get the details of what happened.

But a resident of Osunjela community, identified simply as Lasisi, in a chat said about five men with guns and on two motorcycles were seen in the area around 3.45pm.

“We believe they were robbers and people ran in different directions. Unfortunately for them, some policemen were not far from the scene and they responded.

“One of the gunmen had an assault rifle; others were also armed with guns. But the policemen killed three of them, while two others fled into the bush,” Lasisi said.

The spokesperson for the Osun State Command of  Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Daniel Adigun, also said, “Policemen and local hunters are presently combing bush in the area to apprehend those that fled.
