As the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), intensifies, additional high-profile legal experts have joined his defence team.
Among the latest to bolster Kanu’s legal representation are Paul Esokoro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and Dr. P.K. Obi, a respected academic. Their inclusion was confirmed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, ahead of today’s court proceedings.
Ejimakor stated:
“Breaking: Paul Esokoro (SAN) and Dr. P.K. Obi (an accomplished academic) have joined Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ever-expanding legal team. Both are present in court today as proceedings continue. The more, the merrier.”
He also noted that the Federal Government will continue presenting its case through a prosecution witness during today’s session, although there may not be sufficient time for cross-examination.
“Another adjournment is likely,” he added via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
This development follows the recent addition of four other senior advocates: Prof. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), Emeka Etiaba (SAN), Mela Audu Nunghe (SAN), and Joseph Akubo (SAN), further strengthening Kanu’s legal defence.
Kanu is currently standing trial on terrorism-related charges before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja. So far, the prosecution has presented two witnesses, including recorded broadcasts as part of its evidence.
