A simmering land dispute has escalated in Okofia Ukana, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, as community leaders raise concerns over alleged irregularities surrounding a real estate development project known as Achievers City Layout.
The dispute involves the Okofia Ukana community and a real estate firm, Jenew Homes Nigeria Limited, which was reportedly allocated 331 plots of land by members of the community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Chijioke Achi, Chairman and leader of Okofia Ukana, alleged that the developer failed to follow agreed procedures in the acquisition process. According to him, the firm engaged a private surveyor identified as Mr. Kenneth Eze without the consent or participation of the community’s leadership structure.
Community representatives further claimed that the situation has intensified following the alleged expansion of fencing activities beyond the initially agreed 331 plots. They assert that additional parcels—estimated at about 900 plots—are currently being demarcated, a development they describe as unauthorized.
The leadership of Okofia Ukana also expressed concern over what they described as the presence of personnel of the Nigerian Air Force within parts of the disputed area. Community members allege that the security presence has created fear among residents and individuals who previously acquired land directly from the community, making access to their properties difficult.
It was further alleged that personnel have established a temporary base within another layout referred to as Legacy Layout, though independent verification of these claims could not be immediately obtained.
As of the time of filing this report, all efforts to reach the management of Jenew Homes Nigeria Limited, including its director, Mrs. Jennifer Onoh, as well as representatives of the Nigerian Air Force, for clarification or response were unsuccessful. Calls and messages sent to the contacts made available to our newsroom had not been returned.
This report is based on statements and documents presented by leaders of the Okofia Ukana community. The publication reiterates that the allegations remain claims by the community, as responses from the other parties involved were not received before press time.
Residents are urging relevant government authorities to intervene and conduct an impartial investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure that due process is upheld.
Ugamatv remains committed to balanced and responsible journalism and will update the public as soon as official responses from the concerned parties are received.
