A cloud of grief descended on Ugwuede Village, Ngene Ugbo, in Awgu Local Government Area on Friday, August 22, 2025, as family, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries gathered to bid a final farewell to Late Mrs. Augusta Uzoamaka Chukwu (née Chikelue), a woman fondly remembered as a symbol of love, dedication, and unwavering faith.
Born on August 19, 1964, into a devoted Christian family in Enugu State, Mrs. Augusta Chukwu lived a life that continues to inspire long after her passing. An alumna of the prestigious University of Lagos, she obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration and dedicated almost a decade of her professional career to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), where she served diligently as a Higher Information Officer and Operational Officer.
In 1991, Augusta’s journey of love and companionship began when she married Mr. George Ndubuisi Chukwu, a union richly blessed with three beautiful children. Her life was not just one of professional accomplishments but also of deep family devotion and community service.
The solemn funeral Mass was held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Ugwuede, where emotional tributes flowed freely, painting the picture of a woman whose life was anchored in faith, compassion, and excellence.
Her children, overwhelmed by grief, described her as their source of strength and inspiration. Miss Sharon Chukwu, her second daughter, tearfully remembered her mother as “a peaceful and caring soul”, praying fervently for her eternal rest. Miss Precious Adorora Chukwu, the eldest daughter, described her mother as “a formidable force and a rare gem”, adding that her absence would leave an unfillable void in their lives. Their youngest sister, Miss Adaora, found consolation in faith, expressing hope that their beloved mother has “gone to meet Christ”.
Tributes also poured in from close friends, colleagues, and community members. Mr. Chikwado Destiny, a family friend, spoke passionately about the positive impact Augusta had on everyone she encountered. Chief Barr. Ifeanyi Akubuo, a member of the Nwanne Amaka Landlords Association and a close confidant, described her as “a woman of peace whose life is worthy of emulation.” Similarly, Mr. Ugonna Nwaosu, a senior colleague of one of her daughters, reflected on the painful loss of a mother, offering prayers for her “peaceful repose and eternal glory.”
Perhaps the most heart-wrenching tribute came from her husband, Mr. George Chukwu, who spoke with a voice heavy with sorrow: “I have lost more than a wife; I have lost my best friend, my partner, and my peace. I take solace only in God’s promise of eternal life.”
The funeral drew a large crowd, including religious leaders, community heads, professionals, and well-wishers from all walks of life, a true testament to the love, respect, and admiration Mrs. Augusta inspired.
As the final prayers were said and her body was laid to rest at her husband’s compound, one sentiment resonated deeply among all in attendance: Mrs. Augusta Uzoamaka Chukwu did not merely live — she touched lives, built bridges, and left behind a legacy that will shine for generations.
Her life’s story remains a beacon of faith, excellence, and love — a reminder that the true measure of a person lies not in the number of years lived but in the depth of impact made on others.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
