The Taraba State Government has debunked reports claiming that Governor Agbu Kefas has endorsed certain political aspirants with automatic tickets ahead of the upcoming general elections.
In a statement issued in Jalingo by the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente, the government described the allegations as unfounded and misleading, stressing that no such promises have been made.
Kente stated that the governor remains committed to upholding democratic values, including fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all aspirants within the party. He emphasized that at no point has the governor assured any individual or group of automatic candidacy.
The clarification, he noted, is consistent with the stance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The party’s chairman, Abubakar Bawa, also reiterated that there is no provision for automatic tickets, affirming the party’s commitment to a credible and transparent selection process.
The government explained that the rumours had created unnecessary tension among party members and aspirants, making it necessary to set the record straight. It urged stakeholders to disregard the claims and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing division.
Reaffirming its focus, the government added that Governor Kefas remains dedicated to governance while supporting due process and internal democracy as political activities ahead of the elections continue.
