In a heartbreaking incident in Tamil Nadu, an Indian woman reportedly killed her two granddaughters before taking her own life along with her elderly mother, following her daughter’s elopement.
The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the village of Chinnakulipatti, located in Oddanchatram taluk. The deceased have been identified as Kaliswari (45), her mother Chellammal (65), and her granddaughters Likthisha (7) and Deepthisha (5).
According to police reports, Kaliswari’s daughter, Pavithra (28), had been married to Prabhakaran of Karur for nine years. The couple had two children but had been facing marital issues, prompting Pavithra to return to her mother’s house with her daughters a month ago.
Authorities allege that Pavithra was involved in an extramarital relationship with a local man. After discovering the affair, Kaliswari confronted her daughter. On Tuesday evening, Pavithra is said to have eloped with the man, leaving the family in distress.
Later that night, a devastated Kaliswari allegedly hanged her two granddaughters before taking her own life alongside her mother, Chellammal.
The incident was discovered on Wednesday morning. Idayakottai Police have sent the bodies to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination and have opened a case for further investigation.
