Take-It-Back Movement Raises Alarm Over Deplorable Conditions Of Ogui Police Station, Urges Enugu Govt To Act

According to TIB Global, the conditions observed at the station “undermine both the efficiency of law enforcement and public confidence in the institution.”

Civic advocacy organisation, the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB) Global, has raised the alarm over what it described as the “deplorable state of infrastructure” at the Ogui Road Police Station in Enugu, calling on the Enugu State Government to urgently intervene.

In a letter dated December 25, 2025, addressed to the Enugu State Government through the Office of the Governor and the Commissioner for Police Affairs, the group said its concerns followed a firsthand assessment of the facility by its representatives.

The letter was issued from TIB Global’s Toronto office, Canada, and routed through its Enugu office.

“On behalf of TIB Global, through our Enugu office, we wish to draw your urgent attention to the deplorable state of infrastructure at the Ogui Road Police Station,” the letter, signed by the group’s Director-General, Dr Chidi Nwanyanwu, stated.

According to TIB Global, the conditions observed at the station “undermine both the efficiency of law enforcement and public confidence in the institution.”

The group disclosed that basic operations at the station are severely affected by the absence of electricity, noting that “officers recording reports were forced to rely on light from mobile phones due to lack of electricity supply.”

It further lamented the state of the investigative unit, saying, “The investigative office used for interviews was furnished with worn-out tables and benches, creating an unprofessional environment.”

TIB Global also highlighted structural decay within the station, stating that “ceilings in several areas had collapsed or were badly stained from roof leakages,” a situation it said reflects years of neglect.

Beyond the office spaces, the organisation said the welfare of police officers attached to the station is being compromised, noting that “the living quarters for officers are in dire need of rehabilitation,” while “one building within the compound remains abandoned.”

The group warned that such conditions are incompatible with the role of the police in society. “The police station is meant to symbolize safety and order,” the letter said, adding that “its current state, however, conveys neglect and erodes trust in law enforcement.”

As part of its recommendations, TIB Global called for immediate and practical interventions, including the “immediate provision of standby rechargeable solar-powered lighting to ensure continuity of operations during power outages.”

It also urged the state government to embark on a holistic overhaul of the facility, recommending a “comprehensive renovation of the station’s infrastructure to restore dignity to officers and confidence among the public.”

Describing the issue as one of broader public concern, the group said it “strongly urge[s] the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of Ogui Road Police Station as a matter of public interest and institutional integrity.”

The organisation concluded by reaffirming its readiness to engage constructively with authorities, stating, “We remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen governance and community trust.”
