Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has revealed that he consults four key Nigerian players before making decisions about his squad.
Chelle also reaffirmed that centre-back William Troost-Ekong remains the captain of the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon in November.
Speaking in a recent interview, Chelle said:
“I never talked about the captain. For me, my captain is William Troost-Ekong. I prefer to say this first.
“I have a small circle — four players — that I turn to when I need to make decisions. When I want something, the first person I ask is William, then Moses, Wilfred, and Osimhen.
“If I’m not happy with the group, I talk to these guys. If I want to ask the players questions, I go to them first before I make my decision.”
Chelle was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles a few months ago, taking over from interim coach Austin Eguavoen.
