Veteran Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has challenged the common perception about her acting abilities, insisting that audiences have only seen a fraction of what she is capable of.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay Podcast, she said, “People often assume I’m a one-dimensional actor. They don’t really know the full extent of my abilities. That’s part of why I’ve returned.”
Damasus also reflected on how her journey into Nollywood began unexpectedly, revealing that her original passion was music. She shared that she moved to Lagos at the age of 15 as a young singer, performing at venues such as Jazzville in Yaba and working with Klinx Studios.
“I had no idea I would end up as a professional Nollywood actress,” she explained. “I was involved in music—doing background vocals and commercials. I was a staff at Klinx Studios, learning and growing as a singer. That was the path I believed I would follow.”
She added that acting came into her life by chance after a friend encouraged her to attend an audition. “I was at home one day, hadn’t even showered, when a friend came over and insisted I accompany her to an audition in Ikeja. At the time, I was living with my sister in Surulere.”
Beyond her career, the actress also spoke about her close relationship with her children, describing them as her greatest source of strength. She emphasized how deeply she values their support and connection.
“We’re very close. I see them as my support system,” she said. “I believe God gave them to me knowing the journey I would go through in life. I needed children who are strong, loving, and able to stand by me through everything.”
