Stability Shattered: How Coalition Talks Created Parallel Factions in ADC, Says Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Leke Abejide, has raised fresh concerns over the ongoing crisis within the party, following the emergence of a coalition faction.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, Abejide said the party had remained stable until the coalition arrangement triggered internal divisions, resulting in parallel structures.

“Our party was very quiet before the issue of coalition came into place. Since the coalition started, we’ve been having issues.

“We have two ADCs now: we have the coalition ADC, and we have the original ADC. So these are the two groups now in court, and we don’t know how it’s going to end,” he said.

Abejide also emphasized his long-standing loyalty to the party, noting that he remains the only elected lawmaker on the ADC platform who has never defected.

“I am the only elected member of the ADC. Anybody you see in ADC today may have decamped to us recently, either in the House of Representatives or in the Senate.

“They were not elected on this platform; they were elected on different platforms,” he stated.

He added that most of the recent entrants into the party joined only weeks ago.

“Maybe it’s just last week or two weeks ago that some people came and decamped to ADC. So I have always been elected on this party.

“I’ve never contested any election on any other platform apart from ADC, and I’ve never decamped. I remain in ADC,” Abejide said.

The lawmaker dismissed claims of his expulsion from the party, insisting that the recognized leadership of the ADC remains intact.

“So, the issue of expulsion, nobody expelled me. My national chairman is still there, along with all our party executives.”

Adding to that, he also disclosed that “David Mark is not a member of our ADC.”
