Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Maiduguri Zonal Command have arrested a spiritualist, Mallam Ayu Sugum, for allegedly inducing and defrauding one Bakura Abubakar of N2.9m.
The spiritualist, who is in his late 40s and a resident of the Pompomari bypass area of Maiduguri, Borno State, also told the EFCC men that he received the money to make Abubakar rich through spiritual means.
Abubakar, a 25-year-old apprentice also said he stole the N2.9m from his employer.
A statement by the command said Sugum was traced to his house after a petition from Bakura’s employer.

Abubakar, who was arrested on July 8, 2021, admitted stealing from his boss. He confessed to the operatives that Sugum promised to make him rich.
The statement reads partly, “Abubakar claimed he was given a concoction to drink by the spiritualist each time he visited and he lost his memory after taking the liquid which made him steal the money from his boss. He said he was also given a handkerchief.
“Sugum also confessed to giving Abubakar a handkerchief and concoction to drink but claimed the money he received from Bakura was not up to N2.9m.”
