Soludo Gifts ₦1 Million Each to 39 Wounded Soldiers in South-East, Pledges Free Medical Care

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has awarded ₦1 million each to 39 injured soldiers serving under “Operation Udoka” — a joint military task force combating insecurity across the South-East. The announcement was made during a special Eid-el-Kabir luncheon on Saturday at the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha Military Cantonment.

The event, hosted by the Commander of Joint Taskforce South-East and GOC 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, also had in attendance a representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Adewale Adekeye.

“Operation Udoka,” launched by the Chief of Army Staff, is designed to root out criminal elements in the region. Commending the gallant efforts of the military and allied security agencies, Governor Soludo emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting the personnel.

“As part of our appreciation for your selfless service, each of the 39 wounded soldiers will receive ₦1 million and free access to medical treatment in Anambra’s healthcare facilities,” Soludo stated.

He praised the military’s intensified operations in troubled communities such as Ihiala, Mbosi, Isseke, and Lilu, noting that criminals were “feeling the heat” and on the run due to the relentless pursuit by soldiers. “We’ll continue to collaborate with the Army and all security agencies to restore full peace to Anambra,” he added.

Major General Olatoye, in his address, highlighted the luncheon as a moment of reflection and unity, beyond celebration. He commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism, acknowledging their sacrifices often go unseen by the public but are essential to the country’s security.

“The efforts of our officers are not loud, but they are impactful. The unity and discipline within the command are our strength,” he said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Major General Adekeye, applauded the dedication of troops in Operation Udoka. He noted the newly initiated “Soldiers Force Policy” focuses on prioritizing the welfare of personnel. He also acknowledged the recent success by the task force, including the interception of a truck carrying over 6,600 arms and ammunition.
