Sit-at-home: Abaribe says order has crippled South-East economy

The Senator representing Abia-South Senatorial District of Abia State in the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has stated that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, did not order the Monday sit-at-home order enforced in the South-East.

Abaribe said this at the investiture ceremony of the 16th President of Enugu Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ECCIMA, Barr. Jasper Nduagwuike, on Saturday in Enugu.

The Senator said Kanu told him he did not order the sit-at-home when he and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu visited the IPOB leader in detention.

He said, “When I and Ekweremadu personally visited Nnamdi Kanu at DSS detention, he said he never give the order for anybody to sit at home. It’s time we stop all this mess in South East and build our economy.”

According to Abaribe, the sit-at-home, which was enforced by hoodlums, had crippled the economy of the region, adding that insecurity compounds the problems in the South-East.

What is happening in South East is a tragedy. Every Monday people sit at home. When you go to IPOB they said they are not the one forcing it. Nobody has an idea of how to solve it.

“Sit-at-home is killing the economy of South East as most businessmen are moving out of the South East region. Insecurity in South East is the biggest problem,” the Senator said.
