Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP–Kogi Central) has officially regained access to her office at the National Assembly, hours after it was unsealed by the Sergeant-at-Arms.
The lawmaker, accompanied by thousands of supporters, marched from the FCT High Court to the National Assembly, where a brief confrontation occurred between her supporters and security operatives before she finally entered her office.
Speaking to journalists, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the past six months as a trying period:
“It’s actually amazing how much we have had to face and survive in the past six months, and most of it happened in the full glare of Nigerians. From the unjust suspension to the recall; we survived the recall; we survived the road and waterways in Kogi State that we had to fly in with helicopter.”
She expressed gratitude to God Almighty, the people of Kogi State, and Nigerians who stood by her.
The senator, who had been under suspension since March 2025 following a confrontation over the reassignment of her Senate seat, accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of running the upper chamber like a personal estate:
“We can’t cow down in the face of injustice; no one is more Nigerian than us. Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am; he is not the governor of this place and he treated me as if I were his servant or a domestic staff in his house.
“It is very unfortunate that at this time, after so many years of democracy, we have the National Assembly being run under such dictatorship; it is unacceptable.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which technically lapsed in September 2025, had prevented her from performing her legislative duties until now.
