Abuja — The Senate has rejected a motion seeking to investigate alleged administrative lapses within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration.
The motion, which was presented during plenary, called for a comprehensive probe into claims of irregularities and shortcomings in the management of the FCT. Proponents of the motion argued that an investigation was necessary to promote transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the nation’s capital.
However, following deliberations, a majority of senators opposed the motion, citing concerns over its timing, scope, and the adequacy of evidence presented to warrant a formal probe. Some lawmakers maintained that existing oversight mechanisms and committees of the National Assembly were sufficient to address administrative issues within the FCT Administration.
In rejecting the motion, the Senate emphasized the need to avoid duplicating investigative efforts and stressed the importance of allowing relevant institutions to carry out their statutory responsibilities without undue interference.
The decision effectively brings the matter to a close, at least for now, unless a fresh motion is introduced with additional details or supporting documentation.
