Segilola Resources Operating Limited, operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, the Segilola Gold Mine, emerged as one of the biggest winners at the maiden edition of the Solid Minerals Excellence Awards (SOMEA) held on May 14, 2026, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The event brought together major stakeholders in Nigeria’s solid minerals industry to recognise excellence, innovation, and significant contributions to the sector.
SROL received five nominations and secured three major awards, including Gold Mining Company of the Year, Outstanding Gold Producer of the Year in the main SOMEA category, and Outstanding Gold Producer of the Year in the Mines Inspectorate category.
Speaking on the recognition, the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Ijeoma Ohiaeri, said the awards reflected the company’s commitment to excellence and responsible mining practices.
According to her, the company’s dedication goes beyond receiving accolades and remains firmly rooted in its core values and operational standards.
In 2025, the Segilola Gold Mine produced 94,130 ounces of gold, further strengthening its position as a leading player in Nigeria’s mining industry.
The company also highlighted its strong occupational health and safety culture, driven by its internal safety management system known as SROLSafe, which earned it recognition for outstanding performance in workplace safety.
SROL added that it remains committed to maintaining sustainable relationships with host communities through strategic development initiatives and active stakeholder engagement.
The company noted that the awards reflect the positive impact of its operations and its determination to sustain a strong social license to operate while creating long-term value for host communities.
