Security agents deployed in Enugu community sacked by herdsmen

Following a report by UGAMATV that security agencies had abandoned Mgbuji Eha-Amufu Autonomous Community in the Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State after herdsmen sacked five village farm settlements and killed many, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army have deployed operatives in the troubled villages.

It was gathered that the deployment of the security operatives followed the report by Journalist and the provision of the logistic materials demanded by the security agencies from the state government.

Our correspondent had reported that five village farm settlements in the Mgbuji Autonomous Community were under siege of armed herdsmen since January 4, when the attackers invaded the community and killed many people, including children and pregnant women.

Soldiers deployed in the troubled community were diverted to another place about 20 kilometres to the scene, while the police demanded that local vigilantes should lead the operation against the killer herdsmen.

Many people were also said to have been kidnapped for ransom from the community and other neighbouring communities by the bandits, including the wife and 11-year-old daughter of Dr Eugene Edeoga, the younger brother of the state Commissioner for Environment, Chijioke Edeoga. They were abducted from their house on January 1, 2022.

Ebeh, who was full of appreciation to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his efforts in bringing the situation under control by providing all the logistics the security agencies demanded to ensure their stay in the troubled villages to maintain security and protect lives and properties of the people.
