Rivers vows to blacklist WASSCE miracle centres

The Rivers State Government has said it will partner the West African Examination Council to check malpractices in schools, saying miracle centres will be blacklisted in the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, stated this during a stakeholders meeting organized by WAEC in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The meeting which has various stakeholders in the education sector in attendance was to review activities of the Council and its performance in relation to the conduct of West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Ebeku said, “Collaborate with us to make sure that we have a situation where in this state (Rivers), there will be no cases of malpractice; and we will collaborate with you to blacklist all miracle centres.”

He noted a case of irregularity against a private school in the state, saying the issue was being investigated.

Ebeku said, “The Ministry is investigating the issue. If we find anyone culpable, we shall sanction such individual.”

The WAEC Zonal Director, Mr. Suleman Kum, said the purpose of the meeting was to share ideas with stakeholders to identify and solve the problems concerning WAEC operation in the state.
