Rivers Lawmakers vow to proceed with impeachment proceedings against Gov Fubara and deputy

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have vowed to proceed with the impeachment process against Governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.

The members who held a press briefing before the commencement of today, January 16’s sitting, accused the governor of attempting to intimidate some members using the EFCC.

The lawmakers who spoke in matches stated that there is no ethnic coloration to the impeachment process as they are only acting in line with the constitution.

The lawmakers who are of the Ijaw extraction appealed to their fellow kinsmen not to see the impeachment proceedings as an attack on the Ijaw ethnic group given that the Governor is an Ijaw man, They say they support the impeachment proceedings because the governor has continuously gone against the constitution and needs to be impeached.

Also speaking to journalists, all the four lawmakers who had earlier urged their colleagues to halt impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the January 8 House briefing, have reversed their stance. They are now calling once again for the impeachment of both the governor and his deputy.

The lawmakers identified as Sylvanus Nwankwo, Minority Leader of the House and representative of Omuma State Constituency, the member representing Degema State Constituency, Peter Abbey, Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, disclosed this at the press conference,

Recall that last Thursday, the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.over claims of gross misconduct by the Governor.

The lawmakers launched the process after Major Jack, leader of the assembly, read gross misconduct charges against Fubara, signed by 26 members of the house.
