‘RHOP’ star Wendy Osefo and husband booked on fraud charges in Maryland

Dr. Wendy Osefo, star of The Real Housewives of Potomac, and her husband Eddie Osefo have been booked on criminal fraud charges in Maryland, TMZ reports.

According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Wendy faces 16 charges, including seven felonies for allegedly providing false or misleading information in a fraud case involving losses exceeding $300. She is also charged with one misdemeanor for allegedly making a false statement to law enforcement.

The couple was reportedly booked on Thursday night in Westminster, Maryland, following a year-long investigation into a burglary claim they made in April 2024.

At the time, the Osefos told police that they had returned from a trip to Jamaica to find their bedroom “ransacked.” They claimed several designer handbags and pieces of jewelry had been stolen. However, prosecutors now allege that the story was fabricated.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, investigators discovered inconsistencies in the couple’s report. In a twist, officials said Wendy was later seen wearing a diamond ring on social media, the same ring she had reported stolen.

The prosecution’s bail recommendation documents further revealed that “numerous items” the Osefos claimed as stolen had, in fact, been purchased and returned to stores before the alleged burglary, with full refunds issued. The couple allegedly filed a $450,000 insurance claim for personal property loss.

Wendy, who joined RHOP in Season 5, is a college professor at Johns Hopkins University, a political commentator for MSNBC and The Hill, and a public affairs scholar with a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the same sorority as U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, with whom she was photographed during Harris’s presidential campaign.

Just days before the arrest, Wendy appeared at CultureCon in Brooklyn, New York, where she was seen speaking and posing for photos.

The charges against Wendy and Eddie come shortly after another RHOP cast member, Karen Huger, was released from jail last month after serving six months of a one-year sentence for consecutive DUI offenses.
