residents steal diesel AS TANKER FALLS ON ROAD

Residents in the Ijora area of Lagos State on Wednesday trooped out in large numbers to scoop fuel from a fallen diesel tanker.

UGAMATV gathered that the loaded 50,000-litre tanker was heading for Abuja when the driver lost control as the vehicle fell around 5pm.

The impact of the collision to the ground was said to have punctured the tanker, causing the diesel to spill on the road.

In a post on an Instagram platform, Instablog9ja, our correspondent observed that vehicles were redirected from the lane by traffic workers.

Residents could be seen using buckets, kegs and drums to steal the diesel gushing out from the tanker

He said, “Our team has been on the ground since 6pm and we have started flushing the diesel content that spilled on the road. We also poured chemicals on the tank to avert a fire incident. The operation is ongoing.”

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, said the incident happened on Apapa Road, opposite Iveco Motor Park, inward Iganmu, Ijora.

“The accident was reported at 5.20pm. Preliminary investigation revealed that the tanker, which was loaded at NIPCO Terminal, Apapa, was going to FCT, Abuja,” she added.
