Residents finger Sokoto commissioner in bandits’ attacks, burn house

ANGRY youths have set the country home of Sokoto State Commissioner for Security and Career Studies, Col. Garba Moyi (retd), in Isa LGA, the home town of the commissioner.

The irate youths burnt down Col. Moyi house after he was allegedly accused of complicity with the bandits attacking the area.

Report also indicated that the youths burnt the vehicle belonging to the traditional ruler of Isa, Sarkin Gobir, Alhaji Nasiru Ahmad, accusing him of connivance.

Trouble, however, started when youths in the village invited the commissioner to discuss incessant banditry in the area being part of the eastern part, the epicentre of banditry in the state, but the commissioner failed to honor their invitation.

When contacted, Col. Moyi confirmed the arson attack on his residence.

He, however, alleged that political opponents were behind the burning down of his house in Isa.

“It was true that youths attacked my house in Isa LGA. They overpowered the security man and set the house ablaze.

“I am yet to visit the area to ascertain the extent of damage to the house, but I can confirm that no life was lost. For now, I cannot say anything further as investigation is ongoing by the police.”

Sokoto State Command PPRO, Sanusi Abubakar, who also confirmed the incident, said investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances leading to the incident.
