The House of Representatives has yet to pass the 2022–2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, over two weeks after returning from a two-month annual recess embarked upon by the National Assembly.
The House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance failed to lay its report on the MTEF/FSP on Tuesday, about one week after resumption. It was billed for consideration on the same day.
The committee, which concluded a two-week public hearing on the MTEF/FSP since August 26, 2021, eventually laid the report on Wednesday without being listed for consideration.
The report was not listed on Thursday, whereas the Senate passed the MTEF/FSP on Wednesday.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu, was asked about the necessity of passing the MTEF/FSP before the laying of the national budget as prescribed by law.
He noted that the House would pass the MTEF/FSP ahead of budget laying by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Kalu said, “The MTEF (report) was supposed to be debated as soon as possible to clear the ground for the presentation of the budget. Won’t it cause a delay, because the debate was to take place this week? I am assuring Nigerians that the consideration of that report would be tidied up before the presentation of Mr President’s budget to the House. That is what I am assuring Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the committee has recommended the approval of the proposals in the document as presented by the executive.
