Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu has alleged that the English-language arm of Nigeria’s film industry was dominated by a “sex-for-roles” culture during her early years as an aspiring actress.

Speaking in an interview on Oyinmomo TV, Regina said her experiences at auditions pushed her to focus on the Yoruba movie industry, which she described as more welcoming and accommodating.

The actress, who is of Igbo descent, claimed she attended several auditions in Surulere, Lagos, but found it difficult to secure roles without facing demands for sexual favours.

According to her, the Yoruba movie industry provided a more supportive environment, allowing her to build her acting career without such experiences.

Regina also lamented that although she is well known in Lagos and many South-West states, she remains relatively unknown as an actress in her home state of Enugu.
