Real Madrid sign Dutch international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan

Real Madrid CF have completed the signing of Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year contract, the Spanish club announced on Sunday, July 5.

In a statement, Real Madrid confirmed that Dumfries will remain at the club until June 30, 2030. “We have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be with our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030,” the club said.

While Madrid did not disclose the transfer fee, multiple reports indicated the Spanish giants activated the 30-year-old defender’s €20 million release clause. An attack-minded right-back, Dumfries joins a Madrid squad that already includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, increasing competition for places in the position.

The Dutch international joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and went on to make 207 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 28 assists. During his spell in Italy, he helped the Nerazzurri win two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies, while also finishing as a UEFA Champions League runner-up on two occasions.

Dumfries also represented the Netherlands national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Dutch were eliminated by Morocco national football team on penalties in the Round of 32. The defender becomes Real Madrid’s fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté.

Madrid, now coached by José Mourinho following the departure of Álvaro Arbeloa, are rebuilding their squad after ending each of the last two seasons without a major trophy. The club has also extended the contract of defender Antonio Rüdiger until 2027, while Dani Carvajal and David Alaba departed at the end of last season.
