Rapper Snoop Dogg responds after backlash over comments on LGBTQ+ representation in Disney film

American rapper, Snoop Dogg, has spoken out after sparking backlash over his criticism of LGBTQ+ representation in Disney and Pixar’s 2022 animated film Lightyear.

During a recent appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, the rapper said seeing a same-s£x couple in the 2022 film left him “scared to go to the movies” because he did not want to answer his grandson’s questions on homos£xual relationships. Read previous report here.

The comments generated backlash against both the rapper and the podcast over how the episode was edited.

The rapper addressed the backlash in the comments section of a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post, writing: “I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons.

“All my gay friends [know] what’s up they been calling me with love,” he continued. “My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old … teach me how to learn I’m not perfect.”

While appearing on the It’s Giving podcast earlier this month, Snoop described feeling stunned when his grandson asked how a female character in Lightyear had a baby with another woman.

‘I didn’t come in for this sh**. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,’ he recalled, admitting that he panicked when pressed for an answer. ‘These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.’

The Pixar spinoff, voiced by Chris Evans, features Uzo Aduba as space ranger Alisha Hawthorne, who is shown marrying her partner Kiko and raising a child in a brief montage, which also featured Disney’s first same-s£x kiss.

Snoop’s remarks drew sharp criticism online, with some accusing him of homophobia.
