The Presidency has dismissed reports suggesting that Muhammed Babangida, son of former military Head of State Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), rejected his recent appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Contrary to a letter shared by media personality Dele Momodu on Monday — allegedly showing Babangida declining the appointment due to personal and professional reasons — the Presidency confirmed that Muhammed has accepted the role and expressed gratitude to the President.
In a statement on X, presidential media aide Olusegun Dada clarified:
“Muhammed Babangida has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, expressing deep gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust reposed in him.”
Dada described reports of rejection as “false and malicious,” accusing those behind the claims of attempting to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Tinubu administration.
The Presidency also assured Nigerians that the sources of the misinformation would be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice, emphasizing its commitment to transparency, accountability, and national unity.
Babangida’s appointment was among several recent strategic leadership decisions approved by the President to strengthen key institutions.
Despite the Presidency’s position, a letter dated July 21, 2025 — allegedly signed by Muhammed Babangida and circulated by Dele Momodu — expressed gratitude for the offer while declining it, citing inability to fully commit at the time.
Momodu, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the PDP, praised the alleged rejection on Instagram, calling it a refusal of a “Greek gift.” The ADC also criticized the Tinubu administration, accusing it of using appointments to curry favor in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
