Police Nab Father and Son Over Theft, Recover Weapons in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command says it arrested a father and son for stealing a mobile phone valued at N180,000 from a residential apartment in the Imeko /Afon local government area of the state.

The suspects Fatai Adegbola and Waliu Adegbola were arrested following a complaint received last Friday.

This was contained in a statement made available to NEWSMEN by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi on Friday.

According to the statement, the 23-year-old son had stolen the phone and upon the information, operatives of the command swiftly tracked the suspect and recovered the stolen phone.

Babaseyi added that investigation also led to a search of the suspects’ residence where a locally made pistol and a dane gun were recovered.

In another development, the command arrested a 25 years old man identified as

Inioluwa Adesanya, in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo and recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout.

The statement reads, “The Command has recorded a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across different divisions of the State, resulting in the arrest of a father and son among five (5) suspects, and the recovery of four (4) firearms comprising one (1) locally made pistol, one (1) locally fabricated pistol, and two (2) dane guns, as well as one (1) live cartridge and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at N180,000.

A fabricated pistol with one live cartridge was found during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout. The item was discovered abandoned and immediately secured by the patrol team. The exhibit has been deposited in the Division’s armoury for safe custody, while investigation is ongoing to trace its origin and ownership.

“Operatives of Ode Remo Division arrested Inioluwa Adesanya ‘m’, 25 years, in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of Ode Remo. Investigation revealed that the suspect gained access to the complainant’s residence under the guise of a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work and subsequently stole the firearm.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to the offence and admitted affiliation with the Aye confraternity, further stating that the weapon was modified for concealment purposes. The recovered dane gun has been secured as exhibit, while the suspect remains in custody pending transfer to SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.”

All cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further discreet investigation and prosecution,” the statement added.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across the State.

Members of the public were also  urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the Command’s emergency lines.
