Police inspector dies after accidentally shooting himself in Kano

A police officer, Inspector Aminu Ibrahim, serving with the Kano State Command has d!ed from an accidental gunshot while on duty in Hotoro area of the state.

 

 

 

The incident occurred at about 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 when the officer, attached to Hotoro Division, reportedly entered a toilet within the premises of Basnaj Global Resources Limited, Hotoro.

 

 

 

 

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, preliminary investigation indicated that Ibrahim accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck.

 

 

 

“The rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was recovered cocked and unsafe, alongside an empty shell. Twenty-nine rounds of ammunition were accounted for against the 30 earlier issued to him,” sources said.

 

 

 

 

The victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed d3ad by a doctor on duty.

 

 

 

His corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
